Saint Helenian Legislative election Date: 31 December 2017

The Legislative Council of Saint Helena has 15 members, 12 members elected for a four-year term by popular vote and 3 members ex officio(appointed by the Governor). Members of the Council are referred to as Councillors and sometimes use the suffix "MLC" (Member of the Legislative Council), while the council itself is often referred to as "LegCo" by islanders officials.


Saint Helenian Legislative election Voting Live 2017

  1. Further to the press release issued on 17 January 2017 announcing the dissolution of Legislative Council and the 2017 General Election, the public is advised of the following changes to the timetable.
  2. Legislative Council will now be dissolved on Saturday 20 May 2017. The St Helena Constitution requires that a General Election be held not less than six weeks (nor more than three months) after the date of dissolution, therefore this year’s General Election is now planned for Wednesday 26 July 2017.
  3. All eligible persons are encouraged to ensure they are registered on the Electoral Roll and exercise their right to vote.

The 12 seats in the Legislative Council were elected by first-past-the-post voting, with voters allowed to cast up to 12 votes.Eight polling stations were opened for voting.
