Haitian presidential election 2016–17 Results
Haitian presidential election, November 2016 – Jovenel Moïse a businessman wins 55.6% votes
Violent protests have erupted in Haiti as losing candidates rejected the preliminary results of an election that indicated political newcomer Jovenel Moïse would be the next president.
Moïse, a banana exporter who ran for former president Michel Martelly’s Bald Heads party, won with 55.67% of votes cast in the 20 November election, the electoral council said on Monday. The result avoids a second round run-off next year.

- A possible second round is scheduled to be held on 29 January 2017 if no candidate receives an absolute majority of the votes in the first round (50% plus one vote)
- The vote count in the first round was ongoing as of 21 November, with final results expected to be published after no more than eight days (max by 29th November 2016).
- Early reports have indicated a close race between Jovenel Moïse and Maryse Narcisse. While counting was still ongoing, both Moïse's Haitian Tèt Kale Party (PHTK) party and Narcisse's Fanmi Lavalas party claimed victory, although official results were not yet issued issued and the CEP's cautioned against making such claims
Haitians are counting on their next president to lift the country out of political limbo and repair damage from Hurricane Matthew, which devastated the country last month, killing up to 1,000 people and leaving 1.4 million needing aid.

Presidential elections will be held in Haiti on 20 November 2016 for the first round is postponed, and a possible second round will be held on 29 January 2017 were no candidate to receive a majority of the votes in the first round (50% + 1 vote).

Electoral system in Haiti
Elections in Haiti utilizes a two-round system; a second round will be held if no candidate wins a majority of the vote in the first round. On 5 April 2016, the Conseil Electoral Provisoire declared that a fresh election will be held on 9 October 2016 with a possible second round on 8 January 2017.
