  1. In the presidential race, if none of the candidates secure an bsolute majority of the valid votes, a runoff election is to be held on 17 December 2017. The Constitution bars Michelle Bachelet, the incumbent president, from seeking immediate reelection.
  2. Following an election reform in 2015, the Chamber of Deputies will grow in size to 155 members from the current 120, while the Senate will increase its membership from 38 to 43 after this election, and to 50 following the election in 2021.
  3. This will be the first non-primary election in which Chileans will be able to vote from abroad. Also, for the first time, a 40% gender quota will be established for candidates of each political party in parliamentary elections.
