New York State Senate District 30 Special Election 2017 Results Live Counting

A special election for the position of New York State Senate District 30 has been called for May 23, 2017. The last day for candidates to accept or decline nomination was March 20, 2017.
The seat is vacant following Bill Perkins's (D) election to the New York City Council.
Brian Benjamin (D), Dawn Simmons (R), and Ruben D. Vargas (Reform) will face off in the special election.

Benajmin, the Democrat, is favored to win the special election. Since the 30th State Senate District was re-drawn in 2012 it has always been controlled by a Democrat. In 2016, Bill Perkins beat Republican Jon Girodes with 95 percent of the vote. Benjamin has also picked up key endorsements from city and state politicians, such as Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, and from various unions.
