Liberia General and presidential elections are being held today i.e on 10 October 2017.
House of Representatives. The elections are overseen by the National Elections Commission(NEC).

- Voting is over and results are awaited.
- Vice President Joseph Boakai and footballer George Weah are 2 front runners.
- If none gets more than 50% votes then Run off would be held for top 2 contenders on 7 November

According to Election Commission Liberia the results will be declared by 25th October 2017.
- Results have not yet been released.But there has been some Irregularities according to the Opposition parties and have demanded an immediate hault on the counting process.
- Though a preliminary results were expected on thursday.

Liberian presidential election Voting Live 2017
- Voting Underway to elect a new president and legislators trasfer of power in more than 70 years.
- President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the continent's first female president, is leaving power after serving 12 years in office.
- Polls opened at 8:00am (0800 GMT) and will close at 06:00pm (1800 GMT).

20 candidates, 2.2 million voters registered to vote in a country of 4.6 million people.
For a candidate to be a winner, he must have at least 50 percent of the votes cast, plus one.

If no one gets absolute majority then Run off election i.e second round of voting might take place.

Liberians will also elect 73 members of the upper house, or House of Representatives

Results are expected within 48 hours, but the electoral body has until October 25 to issue its final confirmation of the results and to announce a runoff if necessary for the presidency.
- Liberia’s National Elections Commission said 20 candidates will contest to succeed President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in polls that are scheduled for October.
- Vice-President Joseph Boakai will run on the ticket of the ruling Unity Party in a vote that will also be contested by former soccer World Player of the Year George Weah, the candidate for the main opposition Coalition for Democratic Change, NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya told reporters on Sunday in the capital, Monrovia.

The elections body also certified 986 candidates standing for the West African nation of 4.6 million’s House of Representatives, which has 73 seats.
Electoral system of Liberian
The President is elected using the two-round system, whilst the 73 members of the House of Representatives are elected by first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies.
