Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has picked Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her White House running mate for the general elections to be held in the US in November.

Timothy Michael "Tim" Kaine (born February 26, 1958) is an American attorney and politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Virginia. A member of the Democratic Party, Kaine was elected to the Senate in 2012 and is the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for Vice President of the United States in the 2016 election. Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Kaine grew up in Missouri and earned a law degree from Harvard Law School before entering private practice and becoming a lecturer at the University of Richmond School of Law. He was first elected to public office in 1994, when he won a seat on the Richmond, Virginia City Council. He was then elected mayor of Richmond in 1998, serving in that position until being elected lieutenant governor of Virginia in 2001. Kaine was elected governor of Virginia in 2005, serving from 2006 to 2010. He served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011.
On July 22, 2016, Hillary Clinton announced that she had selected Kaine as her vice presidential running mate in the 2016 presidential election.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has pulled nearly even with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for the first time since May, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken over the course of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week.

The July 18-22 national online poll found that 41 percent of likely voters supported Clinton, while 38 percent supported Trump. Given the poll's credibility interval of about 4 percentage points, Trump and Clinton should be considered to be about even in the race.

Just before Republicans opened the convention on Monday, Trump had trailed Clinton by nearly 10 percentage points in the poll.

 Reuters/Ipsos national poll: Clinton has 43 percent support to Trump's 36 percent. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee led Trump by 15 points in last week's edition of the same poll.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are statistically tied in New Hampshire after Mrs. Clinton had led by nearly 20 points three months ago, according to a poll released Thursday.
Mrs. Clinton had a 2-point, 39 percent to 37 percent, lead over Mr. Trump in a one-on-one match-up, with 18 percent saying they’re supporting someone else and 6 percent undecided, according to the WMUR Granite State Poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.
In a four-way match-up, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump were tied at 37 percent apiece, with Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson at 10 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 5 percent.
