Somaliland parliamentary election Date: 2020
Parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in Somaliland on 27 March 2019, alongside local elections. However they were postponed by the Electoral Commission, without a new date being set, and the Commission did not indicate when a new date would be announced.
Somaliland election dates and Voting Live 2020
The elections had previously been postponed several times, with the last elections held in 2005. In August 2019 the National Electoral Commission postponed the election again, until at least 2020.
The Electoral system of Somaliland
Somaliland elects on national level a head of state (the president) and a legislature. The president is elected by the people for a five-year term. The Parliament (Baarlamaanka) has two chambers. The House of Representatives (Golaha Wakiilada) will have 82 members, elected for a five-year term.
