General elections will be held in Tanzania in 2020 to elect the President and National Assembly.

In April 2019 Chama Cha Mapinduzi MP Livingstone Lusinde suggested that holding a presidential election in 2020 was not a good idea due to the cost, and that the money should be used for development projects. The proposal was made in order to keep president John Magufuli in the office till 2025.
The Electoral system of Tanzanian
The politics of Tanzania takes place in a framework of a unitary presidential democratic republic, whereby the President of Tanzania is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The party system is dominated by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (Revolutionary State Party). The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Tanzania a "hybrid regime" in 2019.
